Before applying monoblock sealer the driveway or patio should be as clean as possible with dirt, dust and additional sand removed. With recently laid monoblocks you also need to be happy that no efflorescence (surface whiteness) that could reduce aesthetic  benefits of the monoblock sealer is present. If you are concerned the efflorescence should be treated with efflorescence remover. It is then best to allow 4-6 weeks after application to ensure that the efflorescence does not start to re-appear.

Prior to application of monoblock sealer it is recommended pre treat paving with fungicidal wash or weed killer dependent upon condition, leave for approx 7 days and then throughly clean with a adequate pressure washer. Throughout the cleaning process remove as much 'muck' from deep within the joints as possible and a further treatment again will fungicidal wash will ensure the best possible. preparation

After the cleaning process  leave monoblocks to dry throughly for a few days. To ensure the monoblock is dry enough to seal scrape out some remaining jointing sand, If the sand is dry, the monoblock is now dry enough for the monoblock sealer to be applied. It is important that new kiln dry sand is swept into all exposed joints with a sanding broom. If you are sealing with a roller ensure no surplus sand is left on the surface or edges of the monoblocks. This ensures no sand will become sealed to the surface of the monoblock.

Make sure protection is in place for areas such as borders, flowerbeds, ponds and neighbouring properties areas from unwanted sealant with sheeting, masking tape or boards. Temperature should be between 7-23 degrees with no rain is forecast for at least 8 hours after sealer is applied.
